Benefits of Joining the National Guard Association of Michigan

Pension from Michigan

Retirees with 20 good years of service in the Michigan National Guard receive $50.00 each month upon the age of 55. This is in addition to other military retirements. NGAM has continually urged the MI Legislature to increase the $ amount and lower the age of reception.

Health Insurance

TRICARE health coverage is available for all members of the National Guard. This was a successful collaborative effort of all State National Guard Associations and the National Guard Association of the United States. Membership numbers helped greatly in convincing the Congress that this was the right thing to do for our Guard and their families.

Life Insurance

Low cost Term Life Insurance is available to each member of NGAM. There are no restrictive clauses in the policy and payment to beneficiaries is within two to three days. NGAM administers this program thru the American Equity Insurance Co.

NO COST Life Insurance

$10,000 Life Insurance is available to each enlistee of the MI National Guard. This is a NO COST benefit which is offered for the first year of enlistment. The Guard member may elect to purchase a normal term insurance policy following the end of the first year of enlistment.

TAX FREE military pay for AGR, Traditional and Retired members

Michigan has been generous in dismissing Michigan taxes on military pay. NGAM works with the Michigan Congress to ensure this benefit continues. This amounts to a 3% to 7% annual saving to members based upon income and tax bracket. Base upon this benefit, each NGAM member should be able to pay annual dues are no real out of pocket costs in comparison to members in other States.

The National Guard Association of Michigan (NGAM) is pleased to announce the Veteran Support Grant. The use of this grant is intended to assist veterans in need.
