BG JEROME J. MATHIEU, JR
ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
- Purpose: This award is to recognize a member of the Michigan Army National Guard who has distinguished him/herself with remarkably outstanding, consistent and meritorious service to the United States, the State of Michigan and the Michigan Army National Guard.
- Eligibility: Any active member of the Michigan Army National Guard.
- Description: The award consists of a large victory cup mounted on a wooden pedestal. The name of the awardee, his/her organization and year of the award will be inscribed on a small plaque then affixed to that wooden base. The awardee will receive a commemorative plaque/trophy.
- Criteria:
- An individual must have distinguished him/herself with consistent and remarkably outstanding and professional service to his/her unit, fellow Officer/NCO/Soldier, mission and an overall significant contribution to the success of the organization. Simply put, the nominee must be unanimously viewed by his leaders, peers and subordinates as an exceptional Officer/NCO/Soldier whose performance of duty is marked by consistent excellence.
- Superior performance of normal duty will not alone justify this award. A nominee must have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding and exemplary conduct which distinguishes him/her from peers and marks him/her as a leader regardless of rank held.
- Nominating and Selection Procedures:
- Nominating: Any member of the NGAM Awards Committee, the NGAM Executive Board or an elected officer of this Association, as well as the Adjutant General, or any Michigan Army National Guard Unit Commander may nominate anOfficer/NCO/Soldier for this award.
- Application and written nomination submission: No later than 15 April written nominations and accompanying application form will be mailed to: NGAM, P.O. Box 810, Cadillac, MI 49601. Applications and written nominations may be Faxed to: 231-775-7906 (call first). The written nomination should include clear and detailed statements of the nature and magnitude/extent of the nominee’s contributions must be included with the nomination letter. Specific demonstrations of performance of duty and conduct should be cited.
- Selection: Applications and written nominations will be reviewed by the NGAM Awards Committee, which will provide considered recommendations to the NGAM Executive Board for final selection. Only one award will be presented in a single calendar year.
- Presentation of the Award: This award will normally be presented at the Association’s Annual Conference.
