5 Year Plan

Situation (Reality)

NGAM’s membership, conference attendance, insurance program and benefits for members have eroded from the pre-2000 benchmarks. These facts are not singular to the Michigan Guard Association; other state associations have experienced similar effects. A number of national and State of Michigan events have enhanced the speed and degree of erosion. No person or single event is to blame. The NGAM Executive Board has not formally addressed this situation. There was no plan previously established to mitigate these events and their effects on NGAM’s Missions and Vision for the future. During the fall of 2008, the Executive Board formed a Five Year Plan committee to address this situation.

Methodology (execution)

The Five Year Plan Committee developed a method for resolving the situation confronting the NGAM. It based its procedures on:

  1. a close review of historical data (2003 data was used)
  2. examination of current (2007/8) trends in the examined areas of membership, conference attendance, insurance sales and benefits for members
  3. designing a comprehensive and synergized plan for the future (2009 thru 2014)
  4. established monthly actions which focus on the execution of the necessary details to improve the staus of the examined areas of membership, conference attendance, insurance sales and benefits for members

Mission Essentials for the Five Year Plan’s Success

  • senior military leadership support
  • committed Executive Director management
  • open communication with membership
  • consistently executed monthly actions
  • annual review of  progress and refreshment of plan
